Anett Kontaveit has triumphed again at the WTA tournament in Rome. The current Libéma Open champion was too strong for eighth seed Venus Willliams in the third round: 6-2 7-6(3). Kontaveit also defeated the former world’s number one in Madrid last week.
Earlier this week Kontaveit defeated CoCo Vandeweghe and Svetlana Kuznetsova. The world’s number has not yet lost a single set at the Italian gravel.
The 22-year-old Estonian, who is trained by Holland’s Glen Schaap, will play against Caroline Wozniacki or 15th seed Anastasija Sevastova for a spot in the semi-finals. Wozniacki is the world’s number two and 2nd seed at the Premier event.
