Crowd-pullers Coric and De Minaur reach quarter-finals
12/06/19, 20:46 | More on: Alex de Minaur, Borna Coric
The young tournament favourites Borna Coric (22) and Alex de Minaur (20) are living up to the expectations in Rosmalen. The second and third seed reached the quarter-finals on Wednesday evening.
Coric was facing a tough task in his second round match against Taylor Fritz who is one year younger. However, the ‘match of the day’ was not disappointing and Coric even lost a set to his contemporary, but at the end he could call himself the winner: 4-6 6-3 6-3.
De Minaur had to defeat the crafty veteran Andreas Seppi and he did so convincingly: 7-5 6-3.
Frances Tiafoe, another acclaimed talented member of the new and upcoming generation, was not able to beat Jordan Thompson. He was defeated with 6-3 6-2.
Thompson will meet his Australian compatriot De Minaur in the quarter-finals. Coric will play against Chile’s Cristian Garin or Robin Haase.
