Korda to final via Griekspoor
15 June, 14:32There will not be a third consecutive Dutch champion at Libéma Open. Both Tallon Griekspoor and Gijs Brouwer were beaten on the Brabant grass by Sebastian Korda and Ugo Humbert respectively.
Griekspoor, last year’s champion, faced a player in form in the talented Korda and had to acknowledge his superiority after just over an hour of play, 6-2 6-4. Korda is in his seventh final at the highest level, first on grass and also the first American in the final match in ‘s-Hertogenbosch since 1996.
Korda is seeded seventh and, like the Dutchman, feels at home on grass. ‘The crowd was very respectful and I am happy to be here,’ the 23-year-old said after his win over the home hero, who was loudly cheered from the stands.
In the final match, Korda will face either first series leader Alex de Minaur or Ugo Humbert. The latter Frenchman finished his quarterfinal match against Brouwer on court 1 on Saturday: 4-6 6-3 6-3. This ended the fairytale of the Dutchman, who had advanced to the last eight from the qualifiers.
In turn, the left-handed Humbert is the third series leader and will have to play again on Saturday for his semi-final against top-10 player De Minaur. De Australian already settled with service canon Milos Raonic a day earlier.
